Security & Privacy with Wiki's & Blogs

In this Session, we will look at some of the issues surrounding security and privacy for educators in Wikispaces and blog's. Sue Shelly will join us for thr discussion and will be here to answer questions.

Open Spaces

So far in Phase 1 of the technolog-e sessions, we looked at a number of technologies, the most widely used so far are undoubtedly wiki's and blog's.

These spaces are open to the world and there are a number of issues to dicsuss. Please hit the Discussion tab at the top to contribute to this page.

Some of the issues are about what content should or should not be placed in these spaces.

Sue is helping us work on a simple checklist that uses friendly language to ensure you understand some of these issues. Some of the topics included will be;
  • Authority to Publish - If you are going to use images, photos, audio and video files, please ensure you get Authority to publish from anyone that features in your media. The content posted must be authorised and relevant. * Authority to Publish Form
  • Institute Information - No INSTITUTE in confidence information should be posted on this space without prior written authorisation from the appropriate Director - This includes specific staff names, photos, telephone numbers, positions and responsibilities, details of funded projects and opportunities, current business activities or anything that may be deemed as commercial in confidence.
  • Copyright - Please be aware of COPYRIGHT issues surrounding images and material. No content should be posted on your space that breaches copyright legislation, DET or TAFE policies.
  • Intellectual Property -Content that may breach INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY rights or responsibilities should not be posted to your space. more info
  • Monitoring your Space - As owner of this space you are responsible for and will monitor any content posted by any authorised person to ensure it is appropriate.

Things you need to know

  • Wikis and blogs are social software tools, they differs from a static website
  • Understand that the North Coast Institute Wiki space is in its early stages of development, the space is for staff only at this point in time. It is not for student use.
  • You should use this space to share your e-Learning journey with your colleagues in order to build capability amongst staff.
  • This space is not for Institute documents. Any corporate information that all Institute staff need to be aware of, or could be of interest to, should be put onto the Intranet or SharePoint.
  • You own your space, you are responsible for managing content and users on your own wiki space.

There are quite a few resources out there, so keep your eye on this page and watch it grow!
